Giving at Oakbrook Church

We have found that one of the reasons many people do not attend church is their belief that “all the church wants is my money!”  At Oakbrook, we want people to know that we are more interested in building a friendship with them and sharing a gift with them – the good news of Jesus – than in receiving money from them.

That said, giving of our time, money, and energies in the service of God and other people is a central aspect of following Jesus.  It has been passed down to us that Jesus himself taught that “It is more blessed to give than to receive” (Acts 20:35).  God knows that we experience life more deeply and richly when we give of that which we are blessed with to bless others.  And thus it is important that we give back to God with a joyful heart, and not in a stubborn or reluctant manner.  As the apostle Paul wrote …

Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.                                         -2 Corinthians 9:7
